Modern Coastal
Like many empty nesters, Florida was calling. We decided to give it a shot and found this property, situated on a small lake in a big family neighborhood ten miles from the beach. The community had miles of walking trails and tons of outdoor amenities, making it a great neighborhood for families and retirees. The fireplace room was separated from the main living area with a long wall, without any windows or door to the amazing backyard. Once the wall was removed and windows and sliding door were punched through, the whole living/dining area was flooded with gorgeous Florida sunshine and views of huge trees dripping with Spanish moss, and waterfowl flocking to the lake. Entertaining was easy, with several areas for sitting, serving food and watching big games.
The galley kitchen was our biggest challenge, but we found that removing the entry wall and extending the cabinets and counter into the living area gave us a nice open feel for minimal expense. A small breakfast bar and open shelving for glassware and made this little kitchen super functional and inviting.
Small changes, major impact
Pale blue was repeated throughout the property, creating cohesiveness and a nod to coastal, without being too kitschy. Small details like vintage beach photos and palm patterned wallpaper made the bedrooms feel dreamy. White oak LVP carried throughout the entire home creating a seamless flow from room to room.
Moody blues
When staging, small spaces are the easiest places to have major impact. Carry your overall design details into these rooms and add whimsical elements. Make sure all personal items are put away and the spaces are spotless. Add visual interest with color, texture and finishes that tie back to your overall design scheme, without going overboard. Take pictures and look at them through the camera’s eye to be sure it’s crisp and clean. Oftentimes what works in real life looks cluttered in a photo. Remember, buyers shop online first, so be sure your home is picture perfect!
